Have a Look at the More Mature and Darker Version of The Legend of Zelda's Link

Clément Faure has unveiled a fresh interpretation of Link from The Legend of Zelda, presenting a darker and more mature vision of the beloved character.

Clément Faure, a talented Concept Artist from France, has recently shared their latest artwork featuring Link from The Legend of Zelda. In this piece, the artist skillfully reimagined Link's design, infusing it with a darker and more mature aesthetic.

On Faure's ArtStation, the creator shared that this piece of artwork was a challenge. However, Clément fearlessly embraced the challenge, finding joy in pushing their artistic boundaries and stepping up to new heights during the creation of this project. This endeavor proved to be both immensely rewarding and filled with thrilling challenges, ultimately becoming a significant milestone in the artist's experience.

Here are some more artworks shared by the artist where Faure explored and practiced doodles and values with a range of heroic fantasy and dark fantasy characters.

In addition to their other artwork, Faure has shared personal projects that delve into the exploration and development of various ideas. For instance, one project showcases Faure's focus on designing an alien race, contemplating its unique characteristics and societal functionalities.

Within another project, the artist ventured to push themselves creatively by experimenting with photo-bashing techniques.

I don't know if I'd call it darker or more mature just based on how Link looks. I'd say he looks a bit too over-designed like a character from a 2010s action game. I like Faure's other art though, it's very good, and I really like his sketch showing link doing various poses & actions (climbing, resting, holding a rupy, etc) it looks great. The final design has too many unnecessary things tacked on like the belts and pieces of leather & chain mail that look randomly placed on him. Over-designed characters like this have been a plague on modern fantasy works for over a decade now. I'm not against redesigning Link, but more detail doesn't equal better. I'm glad the artists currently working for Nintendo haven't taken this approach in the latest games.

Whoever said this loses the magic of Zelda is incredibly incorrect. Granted it's all subjective anyway; however, this adds a layer of magic to an untapped area of Link. Well done!
