An Artist Imagines Ghostbusters' Iconic Car in 3D With Unreal Engine

Geoffroy Espinasse offered his take on one of the most iconic cars in film history.

What is the most iconic movie car? Is it James Bond's luxurious Aston Martin DB5? Or maybe The Dukes of Hazzard's 1969 Dodge Charger? Or is it the legendary time-traveling DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future? Geoffroy Espinasse, a Lead Level Artist at Arkane Studios, has recently shown which film vehicle he believes to be the most iconic one with a brand-new 3D model.

Continuing the series of automotive renders, the artist presented an incredibly-detailed 3D recreation of the 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor from Ghostbusters 1 and 2, a.k.a. the Ectomobile, a.k.a. ECTO-1. Complete with the recognizable paint job and a variety of ghost-catching devices mounted on top of the car, Geoffroy's take on ECTO-1 stays true to the original design and looks extremely authentic. According to the creator, the digital copy of the Ectomoblie was created using Maya and Unreal Engine.

"As an admirer of this car and a stickler for detail, I've tried to be as faithful as possible to the film," the author noted. "I see things I'd like to add or change, but I started way too long ago and have bored so many people with this model that it's time to let it go and move on. The good thing is that I've discovered Path tracing in Unreal, and I'm absolutely won over by the ease of use and the quality of the rendering."

Earlier, Geoffroy also revealed a cool concept that imagined what cars in Dishonored could have looked like had there been any in the game:
