Introduction

I'm Gal Yosef, a 3D digital artist known for my unique niche in the global art scene. My journey began at 13, I was focused on the realistic and emotional depiction of iconic figures then. My artworks, showcased at Eden Gallery are celebrated by collectors and acclaimed by platforms like Vogue and Forbes, reflecting my impact on the contemporary art scene.

My interest in character art was sparked early on, driven by a desire to reinterpret iconic figures with contemporary relevance. Self-taught through various resources, I have always aimed to resonate with modern audiences while preserving the essence of these characters.

Stealing The Show

Stealing The Show aimed to present classic characters in a modern format. This project was about blending authenticity with creative interpretation, using references to maintain their classic charm while infusing them with a new artistic vision.

For sculpting the head and face, I extensively use ZBrush, complemented by unique brushes that I've developed over the years. This allows me to achieve precise proportions and realistic skin details, capturing the essence and emotions of the characters. The eyes are crafted to convey depth, and accessories like earrings and hairstyles are designed to enhance the overall persona.

The creation of the outfit and body is meticulous and inspired by the iconic Mona Lisa, blending historical artistry with contemporary character design. The character's body is carefully sculpted to mirror the unique personality and physical characteristics of Betty Boop, seamlessly integrating her into the frame and essence of the Mona Lisa. Attention to fashion is paramount, with each piece of clothing being crafted to enhance the character's narrative. The use of texture and realistic details in the clothing adds depth and authenticity, creating a harmonious blend of the old and the new. This approach ensures that the character resonates with both historical significance and modern appeal.

Retopology & Texturing

I employ specialized software for retopologizing the model, creating correct loops for animation, and then I can just pose for still or rigging to animate the character. After that, I can unwrap using UDIMs to get more resolution in textures, preparing the model for complex detailing in ZBrush and texturing in Substance 3D Painter. This meticulous process is crucial for the character's final appearance and realism.

The texturing process is intricate and layered. The skin and eyes are textured to appear lifelike with the unique texture I created for my artworks, I’m using this texture often but I’m always changing it in each other to match it perfectly to the current character with particular attention to minute details. The hair and clothing textures are crafted to add depth and authenticity, striking a balance between realism and artistic expression.

Post-Production

Post-production adjustments are key to achieving the desired visual impact. Rendering such characters involves a nuanced balance of light, shadow, and color to bring out their unique stories.

Conclusion

These projects are time-intensive and challenging, especially in maintaining character authenticity while infusing my artistic style. My advice to aspiring artists is to be persistent, continually learn, and understand that passion and dedication are crucial in art. Age and background are not barriers, and one of the top priorities will be to gather your own style to be recognized.

It's about storytelling and creativity. Platforms like 80 Level Talent offer a great avenue for artists to share their experiences and draw inspiration.
