A Smooth 3D Lucky Luke Animation Made by a Trio of Artists

The model was created by Tony D'Ettore, rigged by Axel Laroche, and animated by Mathéo Naudin.

A trio of immensely talented digital creators – 3D Modeler/Surfacing Artist Tony D'Ettore, 3D Rigger Axel Laroche, and CG Animator Mathéo Naudin – have recently presented a smooth 3D Lucky Luke animation, created by a collaborative effort.

For those who might not be aware, Lucky Luke is the titular character of the iconic Western-style comic book series created by Belgian cartoonist Maurice De Bevere, a.k.a. Morris, in 1946. Last year, Tony D'Ettore imagined a semi-realistic version of the cowboy in 3D, leveraging Blender, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter, and Marvelous Designer to set up the digital model.

A year later, the artist decided to revisit the project, joining forces with Axel Laroche and Mathéo Naudin to give the model a new life. With Tony handling all visual aspects, Axel overseeing the rigging of Luke, and Mathéo managing the animation, the trio has set up a fluid sequence portraying the character in a cool "cowboy walk". You can watch the full animation attached above or by checking out Tony's original LinkedIn post.
