After months of anticipation and dozens of captivating WIP showcases, CG Supervisor Ian Smith and SideFX have finally officially released Project Pegasus, an in-house tech demo created to show how Houdini's procedural workflows can be used in combination with Unreal Engine 5's latest technologies to create stunning 3D environments.

Julien Rollin, a CG Artist and Student at Creative Seeds, a French VFX and animation school, has unveiled Afternoon Fishing, a peaceful and serene 3D environment depicting a relaxing riverside meadow with lush vegetation and tons of eye-catching details scattered throughout the scene.
Inspired by "The Little Duck", a 2018 Disneyland Paris commercial produced by Disney and Unit Image, the environment was set up in Houdini, Arnold, and Nuke, with the goal being to learn more about SideFX's flagship software and how it can be leveraged for environment art. Furthermore, the project also marked the first 3D scene Julien has ever made.

"On June 12th, 2023, WetaFX released a short breakdown of some of the FXs from Avatar: The Way of Water. As soon as I watched this video, especially their underwater sun rays, it clicked in my brain. I immediately had a rough idea of how I would do it in Houdini. So I gave it a go!", says Nabil.

Senior Generalist Henry Yamin has recently blown the minds of hundreds of people by showcasing an impressive procedural cliff generator created using Houdini and Unreal Engine's new Procedural Content Generation (PCG) framework introduced back in May with the release of UE5.2.
Leveraging the toolset in combination with SideFX's flagship procedural 3D software, the creator set up a robust generator that can create a realistic 3D cliff in mere minutes using cliff shapes exported from Houdini. According to the author, the workflow is based on "baking PCG Graphs after locking the look/state of the cliff".
